After winning her primary Tuesday, Iowa Democrat and former Lt. Gov. Patty Judge is ready to take on Sen. Chuck Grassley in November. Grassley's leadership in the GOP blockade of Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland has been dogging him back home. And the Des Moines Register blasted him this week for failing to stand up to Donald Trump, writing, "There are invertebrates that have shown more spine than Sen. Charles Grassley."
Judge hit both points during her victory speech Tuesday, reports Jason Noble.
About three dozen supporters turned out for Judge’s victory party in the marble-clad lobby of her campaign headquarters in Des Moines’ East Village neighborhood. Campaign signs plastered around the room and on the podium from which she spoke underscored the focus of the general election campaign to come: “The Judge Grassley can’t ignore.” [...]
"I am fed up with Chuck Grassley’s excuses for not doing his job," she said, adding, "There is no excuse for not holding those hearings. None. We know what this is about. It is about partisan politics and nothing more. It’s about taking instruction from (Senate Majority Leader) Mitch McConnell rather than Iowa. It’s about his belief that Donald Trump should pick the next Supreme Court justice."
Daily Kos Elections still rates this race as “Likely Republican,” but let’s give Judge a fighting chance.
