WOW. What a day yesterday, Thursday 6.9.2016, turned out to be.
This was a banner day for Democrats. A banner day for America.
Let’s go through the day as it happened.
.
.
1. Bernie meets with Barack Obama
Bernie Sanders vows to work with Hillary Clinton as Democrats move toward party unity
Emerging from the White House after a meeting with Obama that lasted more than an hour, Sanders warned that a Trump presidency would be a "disaster" and that he would "work as hard as I can to make sure that Donald Trump does not become president of the United States."
"I look forward to meeting with (Clinton) in the near future to see how we can work together to defeat Donald Trump and to create a government which represents all of us and not just the 1%," Sanders told reporters.
The senator thanked both Obama and Biden for showing "impartiality" during the course of the Democratic campaign.
.
.
So, Trump would be a disaster, “I will work as hard as I can to make sure that Donald Trump does not become president of the United States”. Sounds pretty good, right?
Also, “I look forward to meeting with (Clinton) in the near future to see how we can work together….”
Absent from Bernie’s White House speech was his constant claim that he’ll make his case to the Super Delegates right at the convention.
Not bad. For Bernie. A couple of rough edges there, he said that he’ll closely “monitor voting in California” and later in the evening stated “When I’m President”, but it was a tough battle for him and overall this was a good first step. It might take Bernie a long time to really get on with it, so it is encouraging to see this change of tone.
Oh, and by the by, Martin O’Malley endorsed Hillary also yesterday:
Clinton finally gets the endorsement of....Martin O'Malley
2. Barack Obama endorses Hillary
A bit of a surprise. Most people felt that with Bernie going all the way through to DC and having just met with Obama that Obama might wait until after the DC primary before making his official endorsement. Not so. He endorsed, and with a great video.
Great video. It is worth dissecting here:
That was a great endorsement video. Mr. President, we thank you for your service as our president and we can’t wait for you to campaign for Hillary all over the country. Together we’ll defeat the nemesis — Trump.
Later that day Barack Obama was on the Tonight show with Jimmy Fallon to “Slow Jam the News”:
.
.
Cool as ever. You have to watch this, totally hilarious.
Then he talked with Fallon about Hillary, Bernie and what’s at stake this election:
.
.
Another segment Obama participated in was “Thank You Notes”, also funny as can be:
.
.
Finally, Obama talked about the state of the Republican Party:

3. Michelle Obama endorses Hillary
.
Sweet: Obama, Michelle, Biden and Warren back Clinton
Obama’s endorsement was a double play. “The First Lady is enthusiastic about Secretary Clinton’s campaign, and you can certainly interpret that video as a joint endorsement,” White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said.
Michelle Obama endorsement of Hillary
(Obama press secretary) Josh Earnest hints Michelle Obama will have a chance to talk about Hillary endorsement during Oprah Winfrey State Of Woman summit next week
President Obama officially endorses Hillary Clinton
Obama plans to make his first public campaign stop with Clinton in Green Bay, Wis., next Wednesday. The President has signaled strongly in recent weeks how ready he is to get more active on the campaign trail, and White House press secretary Josh Earnest said both he and Michelle Obama plan to be heavily active in the coming months as they look to keep the White House in Democratic hands.
Both Barack Obama and Michelle Obama will be heavily active in the coming months campaigning for Hillary. Music to my ears to have these two brilliant people strongly involved in the Hillary campaign.
Michelle Obama had been starting to hit Donald Trump recently, as she did masterfully here at a commencement speech last week:
.
.
Michelle Obama will be campaigning vigorously for Hillary now. This should be a lot of fun. Watch out, Trump.
.
4. Joe Biden endorses Hillary
Joe Biden Endorses Hillary Clinton For President
Vice President Joe Biden endorsed presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton for president on Thursday, hours after President Barack Obama publicly declared his support for Clinton.
“In my view, God willing, it’ll be Secretary Clinton,” Biden said, referring to the next president, during an address at the American Constitution Society convention in Washington.
Biden made his endorsement as he talked about the battle in Washington to fill a Supreme Court vacancy created by the death of Justice Antonin Scalia, and “dysfunction” in Congress he said is “undermining the norms of how we conduct our government.”
Biden also went after Trump in his speech to the American Constitution Society.

Entire speech in the above video.
Biden also unleashed a series of blistering attacks against Clinton’s opponent, presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump, who he said was “literally undermining, and threatening and potentially doing damage to the constitutional imperative of an independent judiciary.”
He called Trump’s attacks on a Mexican-American judge presiding over lawsuits against Trump University “reprehensible,” “racist” and “a dangerous attack on a vital pillar of democracy.”
Trump last week said U.S. District Judge Gonzalo Curiel, who is presiding over lawsuits against Trump University, was biased against him because of his Mexican-American heritage.
Biden said such attacks by a candidate from a major political party make Trump unable to be “trusted to respect the independence of the judiciary as president.”
“These are words of someone who sees our federal judiciary ... as a tool to manipulate to do what he calls ‘to deal with the laws of our country,’” Biden said. “I don’t think the framers envisioned a presidential candidate accusing a judge of being incapable of reaching a fair decision because of his ethnic decent.
“I find Donald Trump’s conduct in this regard reprehensible,” Biden said. “It is a dangerous attack on a vital pillar of democracy ... undercutting the legitimacy of a judge by suggesting that because of his heritage he’s incapable of being fair. It is racist.”
5. Elizabeth Warren endorses Hillary
.
.
Elizabeth Warren endorsed Hillary on the Rachel Maddow show, and it was a very strong endorsement:
Highlight quotes of Elizabeth Warren’s Hillary endorsement:
- “I am ready to get in this fight and work my heart out for Hillary Clinton to become the next President of the United States”
- “Hillary Clinton won. And she won because she’s a fighter, she’s out there, she’s tough. And… I think this is what we need.”
- “NOBODY says that she (Hillary) doesn’t know how to throw a punch.”
- “This is about what we need to survive...This is about a country that really is building an economic future for all of us. And, YES, I think having a fighter in the lead, a FEMALE FIGHTER in the in the lead, is EXACTLY what this country needs.”
- “We can line up, we can be part of Hillary Clinton’s effort to be the President of the United States, and to help do the things we care about in this country, to really help build a future.”
Earlier in the day Elizabeth Warren eviscerated Donald Trump in her speech to the ACS convention.

6. Donald Trump, likely orange with envy faced with a banner day for Hillary, tweeted this:
.
Hillary tweeted back:
And that tweet is soaring to a new all-time Twitter record for Hillary:
Hillary Clinton sets the internet on fire with a 3-word response to Donald Trump's tweet
That tweet is already at well over 400,000 retweets and at almost 500,000 likes, easily beating Hillary’s previous Twitter record following her announcement to run for the nomination, which had 99,000 retweets and just over 100,000 likes.
Hillary Clinton Already Beat Donald Trump: ‘Delete Your Account’ Tweet Soars Toward Twitter Record
For reference, the top political tweet is Obama’s “4 more years" from 2012 after he won the presidency again, which had 800,000 retweets. Trump's post that evoked Hillary’s response is at a mere 32k retweets.
All in all, yesterday was an incredible day for Hillary, the Democratic Party and America.
And, Donald Trump is orange with envy in more ways than one these days.
.
.
It is going to be a fun ride, folks. Only person missing from the fun in this pic is Elizabeth Warren. The 4 of them are on their way to picking her up now to join the party. :-)
