It's Friday, July 15, and Day 153 since Justice Antonin Scalia died and Mitch McConnell laid down his Supreme Court blockade: No meetings, no hearings, no votes on his replacement. It's also Day 116 since President Obama named Merrick Garland to be Scalia's replacement. What's the Senate doing today instead of considering the Supreme Court nominee?
Nothing, of course. It's August. What? you say, looking at your calendar. It's August as far as Mitch McConnell is concerned. Even though almost no Republican senator is willing to go to Donald Trump's convention next week, they decided that they must take the week off. Then the week after that is the Democrats' convention, so hell, why not start August two weeks early?
We'll see them again on September 6. And, no, McConnell is not leaving the door open for recess appointments.
But America probably won't know the difference. It's not like the Senate is actually doing anything for the country when it's in session, anyway.
Please donate $3 today to help turn the Senate blue. The future of the Supreme Court depends on it.
