Donald Trump promised to bring celebrity pizzazz to the Republican National Convention, and on Monday night, that came in the form of sitcom has-been Scott Baio and soap opera actor, eighth-place Dancing with the Stars finisher, and model Antonio Sabato Jr.
Both Baio and Sabato managed to distinguish themselves off the stage as much as on, in ways very much in the spirit of this RNC. Sabato apparently forgot he was supposed to be focused on attacking Hillary Clinton and fought the last fight, instead. The one about President Obama’s religion:
“First of all, I don’t believe that the guy is a Christian,” Sabàto said. “I don’t believe he follows the God that I love and the Jesus that I love.” [...]
“I’ve met a lot of Christians. I know Christians,” he said. “I am one, and I don’t believe he is.” [...]
“Absolutely,” he said when asked if he believed Obama was a Muslim. “That’s what I believe. And you know what? I have the right to believe that. And you have the right to go against that, but I believe it. He grew up in that world. That’s where he comes from. That’s where he grew up.”
You also have the right to believe the moon is made of cheese, but …
As for Baio, what does he have to say about that tweet of Hillary Clinton in front of a sign saying “country” where—ha ha ha—she is blocking the O so that it spells out a naughty word?
BAIO It's just a picture somebody sent and we sent it out. You make of it what you want. I didn't put anything behind it. I just sent it out there. You look at it, you look at it any way you want.
Dude, either say you regret it or fully stand behind it. This attempt to pretend that when you tweet a picture of the first woman to be a major party presidential nominee in front of a particularly vulgar word for female anatomy, people’s reactions are on them because you “didn’t put anything behind it” is just pathetic and weak. Just as the picture was something for a 12-year-old to appreciate, this response is something a 12-year-old would mumble to get out of trouble.
But hey, star power at the RNC!
