Tuesday night at the Republican National Convention was the big night for The Donald, when he was formally elected the GOP nominee for president. All of the news today should have been about the newly unified Republican Party, ready to start the general election. Then came this.
And thus starts Day Three of Melania's plagiarism being the dominant story of the day—because Donald Trump has made it so. Trump campaign officials, Republican officials, and Trump surrogates fell all over themselves on Tuesday to deny the plagiarism. They found excuses, explaining it away by saying they were such hackneyed statements you could attribute them to anybody, and doing their best to downplay the whole thing. All in the hope that it would just go away. Ha!
And it gets even better! Trump also got a Trump organization staffer to out herself as Melania's ghostwriter.
Meredith McIver apologized in a statement sent out by the campaign and said Donald and Melania Trump did not accept her resignation.
McIver explained that she included the passages from Obama's speech after listening to Melania Trump read passages from the 2008 speech.
Yep. Plagiarism. She also says of Melania, "A person she has always liked is Michelle Obama." The campaign is just going to love that one! Oh, and by the way, she writes that statement on Trump Organization letterhead. As a Trump Organization employee.
