Just a quick hit piece because I wanted to share the news. Just saw on the 90for90 Facebook page that Henry Red Cloud has signed on as a supporter of 90for90. He’s running for SD Public Utilities Commission.
Henry Red Cloud is the direct 5th generation descendant of Chief Red Cloud, one of the last Lakota war chiefs and one of the most famous Native Americans in history. Henry was born and raised on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, home of the Oglala Lakota Nation, where living conditions are extremely difficult. www.lakotasolarenterprises.com/...
Most of us here at Daily Kos know about the Pine Ridge Reservation, and we know about it partly because of Aaron Huey, and a lot of fantastic writers here at Daily Kos.
At the end of his TED Talk Aaron Huey says something, not exactly, but sort of, like this:
There must be something we can do. Some call to action. But the solutions seem so far in the past. The call to action that I offer today, my TED wish, is HONOR THE TREATIES! Give back the Black Hills. It’s none of your business what they do with them.
I agree. I have another call to action as well. Let’s help get Henry Red Cloud elected. He’s the person we need to help stop the tar sands pipeline. twitter.com/... He’s already on his way by helping to create an alternative to oil pipelines and fracking; creating jobs while doing it too.
In partnership with environmental nonprofit Trees, Water & People, Lakota Solar Enterprises offers a wide-range of green job training opportunities for Native Americans, including:
- Solar Heating
- Solar PV (Grid-Tied and Battery-Tied)
- Solar Water Pumps
- Solar Hot Water Systems
- Building with Compressed Earth Block and Straw Bale
- Green Business Development in Indian Country
For more than a decade, Henry has devoted himself to developing his expertise with renewable energy applications that are environmentally sound, economically beneficial, and culturally appropriate. Today, Henry is a twenty-first century Lakota Warrior, bringing green technology and employment to Native American communities. He reminds tribes that they can live sustainably and shows them that by embracing clean, renewable energy applications there is a way to get back to a traditional relationship with Mother Earth. As Henry says, “This is a new way to honor the old ways.” www.lakotasolarenterprises.com/...
As I said this is just a quick piece. I wanted to share the news, but anyone who is a direct 5th generation descendant of Chief Red Cloud is going to get a lot more written about him here at Daily Kos, so stay tuned for more.
