I’m still getting my bearings here after arriving in Philadelphia yesterday afternoon. Registration and orientation took a while yesterday afternoon, to say nothing about checking into our motel. But then I went with several friends to a reception downtown for Michigan delegates, and then to a special service sponsored by the Congressional Black Caucus. I was tweeting about the latter event for a while last night and will write more about it later, I hope. Then late last night I went with MI friends to an old favorite of mine, Monk’s Cafe close to Rittenhouse Square. I don't think I will close down the bars at five am—we do need to get our crendentials by 8:30—but who needs to sleep during a week like this? (Who am I kidding? I am not a spring chicken any more. ;)
On the bus from the delegation hotel to the Pennsylvania Convention Center, my friend from Ann Arbor, Ian, and I had a wonderful conversation with a prominent Democratic political veteran, Martha G. Scott, who was the first African-American woman mayor of a large city, Highland Park (an enclave within Detroit)—from 1987-1991 iirc. She still holds office at the county level; I've known of her for years and am delighted to have met her at long last.
I’m posting this before heading into caucuses. There will be a big meeting of Bernie delegates at 12:30, where Bernie will address us all. I do not expect anything new or surprising. We’ll see; watch this space. Or, feel free to follow me for live tweets when I can: @peregrinekate.
By necessity, these posts will be irregular and intermittent this week. I am taking photos and will have some available from friends, too, but I don’t want to take that much time out of the event.
Don’t forget: if you are in Philly and want to take part in a Daily Kos lunch on Wednesday at noon at Sang Kee, please let me know in comments or via Kosmail. Thanks.
More soon!
