Prep the Alamo and start planning that border wall with Oklahoma. Because 3 out of 5 Trump supporters in Texas would rather quit than deal with President Hillary Clinton.
According to poll results from Public Policy Polling released Tuesday, three out of five Texans who support Donald Trump said they would support seceding from America if Hillary Clinton becomes president.
Of course, 3 out of 5 Trump supporters in Texas probably support seceding if someone serves them green salsa. Or there’s a “y” in the day.
… when faced with the possibility of a President Hillary Clinton, a majority of Texans said they'd rather leave.
Uhhh. Hmm. That’s not quite what the poll results say. In fact, that’s simply wrong. PPP determined that, if Hillary was elected, a majority of Trump supporters wanted to cut and run. But that number is only 40 percent of Texans. Because the really big news from the poll is this:
... Donald Trump leads 50 percent to Hillary Clinton's 44 percent after polling Texans.
Trump is only six points up in Texas. In Texas. Romney took the Lone Star State by 16 percent. The real news here is that just a few more weeks of “letting Trump be Trump” might be enough to tie a blue-ribbon around the biggest bunch of electoral votes outside California.
Still, just in case, maybe we should dust off Texas’s Declaration of Causes from the last time they decided to walk out on America …
Texas … was received as a commonwealth holding, maintaining and protecting the institution known as negro slavery--the servitude of the African to the white race within her limits--a relation that had existed from the first settlement of her wilderness by the white race, and which her people intended should exist in all future time. Her institutions and geographical position established the strongest ties between her and other slave-holding States of the confederacy.
Okay, that may need some updating. But hey, no Ted Cruz! May not be quite worth giving up the second largest state and all that good music in Austin … but it’s tempting.
