Ever since Donald Trump brought on his all new, all-not-Putin-puppets campaign team, his once clear round ‘em up, ship ‘em out immigration policy has become plagued by a softening and embarrassing confusion and angry blame and excuses. Over the weekend, Trump’s team provided perfect clarity on Trump’s immigration policy.
Pence: Let’s be very clear. Nothing has changed about Donald Trump’s position.
The other half of the Trump translation force was also talkifying this thing to pieces.
Conway: “The question is what to do. He has said if you want to be here legally, you have to apply to be here legally. We all learned in kindergarten to stand in line and wait our turn and he is not talking about a deportation force.”
Actually, it’s more like he’s not talking about a deportation force right now.
“You’re going to have a deportation force, and you’re going to do it humanely,” Trump told MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” in an exclusive interview, arguing that he would deport people with a policy similar to the one former President Dwight Eisenhower used to deport 1.5 million by the busload, dropping the immigrants off at remote parts of the border. ”Look, we have to do what we have to do, and Ike did it and other people have done it.”
So, yeah, he kinda of did talk about a deportation force and “humanely” taking people away at a bulk rate, and support for Operation Wetback. In fact, he did exactly that. And if that’s changed, then something has changed about Donald Trump’s position.
So, stop me if you’ve heard this before. On Wednesday, Donald Trump will give a speech on immigration.
At which he may, or may not, completely reverse everything he’s said over the last year, while telling us it’s just the same. And maybe give the results of that poll of people at his own rally.
