I heard him say it. I couldn’t believe my ears. Was it possible to be So Completely and Utterly out of touch and tone deaf? Not to mention just plain wrong.
I was at a Candidates Forum for the FL August primary. Everyone got to speak. John Rutherford stands up, defends and repeats his statement. He says it again ‘Black Lives Matter is hate group’ and then proceeds to draw a line from the group’s rhetoric of social action and engagement to the murder of police officers in Dallas. My jaw dropped open. Did he actually say this?
The previous time he said it was reported. So I didn’t imagine it. Yes, he said it. He clearly believes this is a good talking point. One of the main points he is running on since it feeds in to his ‘law-and-order’ position.
Rutherford is a law enforcement guy who nailed his flag to the mast of Angela Corey – the infamous Sates Attorney from the Trayvon Martin murder case. Rutherford clearly has terrible taste in friends. Let me remind you; this is a candidate for Congress.
This is an open seat and we have a choice between robo-republican talking points delivered by a single issue a tone-deaf candidate and meaningful realistic sustainable solutions for America from a guy who has had a range of experience from military to business and is a solution focused environmental engineer. Democrat Dave Bruderly is running for Congress.
The good news is last week Corey was thrown out when registered Republicans overwhelmingly voted against her.
The bad news is John Rutherford beat his opponents in his primary with the same group of voters, although more than 60% of those voters did not vote for him.
The best news is that FL4 has a choice in November because Dave Bruderly is running. We have a Democrat.
Rutherford would have been delivered to Congress had Dave not stepped up.
Show Dave some Bruderly-love. Let him know you have his back.
