Received this e-mail today from Democracy For America in support of Deborah Ross’ (D. NC) campaign:
I’ve got some BIG news:
Today, Democracy for America launched a tightly-targeted, $200,000 independent expenditure campaign to build support for Deborah Ross -- a DFA-endorsed candidate for U.S. Senate in North Carolina -- among both Spanish and English-speaking Latino voters.
Our comprehensive campaign will include TV, radio, online, and pre-roll video ads (like the ones you see in your Facebook feed) in both English and Spanish, as well as bilingual persuasion calls targeting all North Carolina Latino voters who have previously voted in any of the last three general elections.
As Bernie Sanders might say, this a YUUUGE move for DFA that could be game-changer in one of the races Democrats need to win to take back the Senate from the control of Mitch McConnell and the Republicans.
Before I give you the full scoop on the strategic thinking behind DFA's campaign, click here to check out the English version of the ad we’re launching today (and please contribute to help us keep it on the air in North Carolina).
Here's why we decided to make this big investment in Deborah Ross's race for U.S. Senate -- and the importance of our focus on Latino voters in North Carolina:
- Not only would a win in North Carolina help Democrats take back the Senate, Deborah Ross is the kind of committed progressive we need in Congress. Before ever running for political office, Deborah Ross spent ten years fighting for progressive values as the North Carolina State Director of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and, as a state legislator and U.S. Senate candidate, she’s fought for pay equity and stood up for comprehensive immigration reform -- both when it was easy and when it was hard.
- Latino voters are an absolutely essential and growing voting block in North Carolina, especially in a close election. According to a 2013 PEW report, the Tar Heel State is home to the fastest-growing Latino population among the country’s key swing states. DFA strongly believes that progressive values win when all voices are heard at the ballot box. By focusing our resources on Latino voters in North Carolina, we hope to have a lasting impact on this race and inspire others to realize that engaging and investing in Latino voters isn’t just a strategy that works in western states and Florida -- it’s an essential part of progressive success all across the country.
- Despite polling showing that she’s running one of the closest Democratic Senate races in the country, Deborah Ross has received almost no support from official Democratic Party committees and allied groups. The Real Clear Politics polling average for the North Carolina Senate race shows that Deborah is down by just 2.5 points (and recent polling shows her ahead). Yet, according to OpenSecrets data, Democratic committees and other allied groups have spent just $13,409 backing up Deborah’s campaign, while Republicans and their allies have already spent nearly $900,000 (with another $9 million on the way) on her Donald Trump-supporting opponent. Our targeted work in this race will not only help Deborah fight back against her the outsized advantage of her opponent, but hopefully inspire other Democratic groups to step up and join us.
The $200,000 we’re hoping to put into this campaign could provide Deborah Ross with a tremendous boost in her race and in the battle for control of the U.S Senate -- but the truth is, we can’t do it without your help.

Thanks for all you do,
