The latest in the annals of Republicans worrying about the effect Donald Trump’s barely-there campaign will have on downballot races: GOP operatives are freaking out about Trump’s lack of advertising in states with competitive Senate races.
Unless the GOP presidential nominee dramatically increases his spending, the gap will be downright gargantuan some places. In North Carolina, where Republican Sen. Richard M. Burr faces a tough re-election fight, Clinton and Democratic groups are on track to spend $21 million. That's seven times more than Team Trump’s $3 million.
GOP strategists say that at a time when voters are splitting their tickets less than ever, Clinton’s on-air barrage could inflict significant damage on the party’s reputation as it fights to save its slim Senate majority.
Meanwhile, they’re frustrated that Trump is spending in states like Virginia, with no Senate race this cycle.
This is what happens when your presidential nominee doesn’t know what he’s doing, is barely running a campaign outside free media, and does not care about anyone or anything but himself. And there’s a reason all that is happening to Republicans: They created the environment in which Trump could rise, and they’re paying for it.
Give these freaked-out Republicans another reason to worry by giving $1 to each Daily Kos-endorsed Senate candidate.
