Republicans are working really hard to turn “deplorable” into the worst, rudest possible thing to call someone, but vice presidential nominee Mike Pence may have taken that a step too far when he piously refused to apply the term to famed white supremacist David Duke.
“You would call him a ‘deplorable'?” Blitzer asked.
“No, I’m not in the name-calling business, Wolf. You know me better than that,” Pence said. “What Hillary Clinton did Friday night is shocking.”
Pence is insistent that he and Trump “denounce” Duke and “don’t want his support,” but deplorable? Certainly not, sir! Hillary Clinton tweeted the obvious point:
Duke is a former grand wizard of the Ku Klux Klan. If Pence was being asked to call Duke a goat-blowing dung-faced snake, he’d be welcome to get up on his high horse about name-calling, but “deplorable”? “Deplorable” is definitional, not name-calling.
Will you give $1 to elect a president who'll say the KKK is deplorable?
