Several weeks ago, my city held its annual Town Day. Sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, it features booths for local organizations such as schools, businesses, clubs, and the like. I attend every year (a) to get my annual flu shot; and (b) to see the names plastered all over the City Democrats and City Republicans booths. I always take pictures so that when November rolls around and I’m in a voting booth choosing for School Committee or Alderman, I have a clue which party is affiliated with each candidate if it’s not specified. My local weekly paper, in its coverage of Town Day published an article entitled Trump supporters make presence known in <City Redacted Because Google>. In the article, which discusses city Republican Committee thoughts on Trump, was this statement by Republican alderman-at-large Monica Medeiros (I’ve removed the city name because why make it easier for Google):
Some [city residents] may also be holding off on joining the [city] Republicans because they don’t want backlash from neighbors, Medeiros added.
“I had one of our members say to me that he thinks a lot of people he knows might be interested in joining us, but they’re a little bit afraid of potential backlash right now and might wait until after the election is over,” Medeiros said. “They do support Trump and his words, they’re just not ready to go there publicly.”
(emphasis mine)
So let’s get this straight… Republicans are running a candidate people don’t want to be associated with. They’ll support him by voting, but don’t want their neighbors to know (unless he wins?). I can safely say that’s got to be in the running for worst Presidential endorsement ever. “Imma vote for him, but don’t you be tellin’ anyone. If the neighbors find out I likes me some Trump, I don’t know what will happen!”
Maybe if they went to Trump events in a disguise so no one would know who they are. Let’s put on our thinking caps… what could they possibly use that would be anonymous yet inexpensive? Oh hey, I know…
I’m going to go out on a limb here and suggest if you can’t be out and proud in your support for your candidate, maybe you need to look either at (a) your own conviction in the merits of said candidate; (b) what exactly you support in your candidate that would be detrimental to your relationship with your neighbors; or (c) your candidate’s suitability for office.

This comment by RETIII in Hunter's Monday Dump Trump illustrates painfully and expressively how the election is confounding young people's perception of reality. And this is the time when they're forming their view of the world. Yipes.
