If Donald Trump reads this headline, he’s gonna be pissed: “Donald Trump’s crime policies might hit minorities harder, experts say.” “Might”? Can’t you just hear Trump barking into the phone that his people need to retool the proposals (sketchy as they are) to be sure there’s no “might” about it? But really, there’s no might about it. Trump’s policies are all about hitting minorities harder:
Over the past few days, Mr. Trump has intensified the racial and ethnic cast to his policies. On Wednesday, he suggested stop-and-frisk policing, a tactic that has been discontinued in New York City, as a model for other cities. More than four in five people stopped by New York police under stop-and-frisk were black or Hispanic, and a federal judge ruled the policy unconstitutional as it was put in effect.
Earlier in the week, Mr. Trump answered the bombings in New York and New Jersey by calling for aggressive profiling of terrorism suspects, and criticized the authorities for showing restraint toward people from “that part of the world.”
Also, Trump supports bringing back a federal policy allowing local police departments to stop people and question them about their immigration status—so, basically, stop-and-frisk for Latinos.
Wouldn’t it be a great thing to be a white criminal in Trumpworld, where all the police were too busy harassing black and brown people to notice you, as a white person, committing actual crimes?
