There are a lot of important areas that need to be covered at tomorrow's presidential debate. However, there are three main issues that have been gnawing at me for a several days now. First, that Hillary’s the real change agent. Second, she is the only one addressing climate change. And third, she will protect and defend Social Security. Each of these are a major point of differentiation between Hillary and The Donald. Each of them would be welcome news to key constituency groups, including millennials.
And, it seems to me that 90 minutes should provide ample opportunity to be able to address these, in addition to all of the other areas of discussion.
The most important thing of all, it seems to me, is for Hillary to try to take the “change” issue away from Trump. His whole shtick so far has been to say, essentially, that things are horrid and have been horrid all across the board for a long time, so why not try something completely different and take a chance on him?
Following are the key points that, it seems to me, should be made, although not necessarily in these exact words:
1. It is Hillary who is the real change agent in this election. Bill Clinton suggested this at the Democratic National Convention. The debate would be a good opportunity for Hillary to build on that theme. The fact is, that we have never had a Hillary Clinton administration before, so she represents the best opportunity not just for change, but responsible, positive change.
2. Only one of the two major party candidates wants to address climate change. The other, Hillary’s opponent, not only has no plans regarding climate change, but takes the extremist, fringe position that it doesn’t even exist.
3. And she should ask why Trump’s Republican allies in Congress are trying to cut more than a billion dollars from Social Security? Not only will a Hillary Clinton administration NOT cut money from Social Security, she plans to expand benefits for those who need them the most. And Republicans are being irresponsible for even considering the possibility of cutting money from Social Security.
