This week has been validating. I joined DK because I was sick of reading what a lying, unlikeable, corporate sellout HRC was every time I went online or watched TV or read the news or opinions. I was looking for people who didn’t buy the Super Bernie vs Horrid Hill narrative that was literally everywhere. As a news junkie, I was sick of seeing sexist coverage of her campaign, sexist analysis of her campaign and sick of being told in real life and online that I was a silly little woman who was just voting with her vagina.
I have been grateful to so many writers who have complicated this narrative over the last year but the steady tide of ‘untrustworthy’ stories, ‘unlikeable’ stories and Hill Hate in my feeds 24/7 has gotten old. I was so glad to find the fabulous Hillary Writers Circle diaries and to connect with other grassroots workers who motivate and inspire me with their words. DK has now become one of my fave places to visit online. I think the misogyny surrounding HRC is opening the eyes of people to the issues we face as a party, as a country and as a human race. And it will make a difference. We have a president who is a loud feminist and we’ll hopefully have another one in January!!!
I’m glad the media exploded this week with coverage of the obvious level of sexism that Hillary faces and has faced. All it took was Trump man-terrupting her 51 times. The national discourse could have used more coverage of the double standards and the discrimination many women face when they seek public office over the last year. Thankfully there was enough Hill Love on DK and there are people like Amanda Marcotte, Jessica Valenti and Joy Reid in the world to give me hope. I think the message is finally getting through:

Stop Pretending You Don’t Know Why People Hate Hillary Clinton:
What kind of a society treats these two people as equal in any way? What kind of society even considers the latter over the former for its highest office?
Generations from now, people will shake their heads at this moment in time, when the first female major party presidential nominee—competent, qualified and more thoroughly vetted than any non-incumbent candidate in history—endured the humiliation of being likened to such an obvious grifter, ignoramus and hate monger.
We deserve the shame that we will bear.
