OK, the narrative seems to go that the neoliberal Obama and the "lunch-pail" Biden would be supporting the neoliberal "continuity" candidate, Hillary Clinton. They want to see the accomplishments of their administration carried forward, and Hillary's the one who'd do that. Kind of obvious, huh? Bernie, the populist loner, is out there all alone (with a super majority of enthusiastic young people). Waaaay too radical for the main stream, right?
Then why have Barack and Joe been talking so warmly about Bernie and his campaign?
Speaking with Gloria Borger on CNN January 12, 2016, Joe praised Bernie's authenticity on the issue of income inequality and made the comment that Hillary's "a newcomer" to the issue.
That same evening, Barack Obama devoted a long stretch at the beginning of his final State of the Union address to an exploration of the same theme, sounding a whole lot like Bernie. The President's tone was warm and kind, the sort of tone he takes when he wants to draw the listener in close, to be sure that he's understood deep in the heart.
What does it all mean? Did these two get together to admit they both #FeelTheBern? Do they see Bernie's vision as the next step, the bridge that was too far for them to cross, but NEEDS to be crossed to fulfill their goals for the nation?
Of course, nobody mentioned endorsement, but it seems that Bernie's not only surging in Iowa and New Hampshire, but in the White House as well…
I think we should all stay tuned!
