He fell in love with Yosemite in 1895, standing waist-deep in a meadow filled with wild flowers. Eventually, he would record the life cycles of 500 of the estimated 1,500 species he identified in the Park. His goal was to make all of us fall in love with nature so deeply, and so clearly, we would be filled with a fervent desire to understand and protect all of life and the world which holds us.
