As a progressive, I really have to hand it to Dallas’s ABC station, WFAA/8. Unlike most other stations, they make an actual effort to be (for lack of a better term) “fair and balanced” in their reporting. When #BlackLivesMatter protesters marched through downtown Dallas, the station eschewed the usual dreck, and chose to send a reporter from WFAA’s Downtown Dallas studios to have live, intelligent, civil on-air dialogues. There were no “FOX questions” or “but-but-but don’t you condemn the loooooooooting?” canards; just honest reporting.
The station also reports on issues affecting the poor and minority populations of North Texas with actual depth, substance, and fairness.
As you may have guessed by now, this makes WFAA the biggest local recipient of right-wing vitriol and snark. Usually, their claims of “left-wing bias” are either not dignified with a response, or are responded to in the usual “canned” way.
Sometimes, however, the responses are simply golden.
This was the case this morning. This time, it was the station’s official response to a right-winger’s comment on WFAA’s Facebook page regarding the “Y’all Qaeda”/”Vanilla ISIS”/”Talibanjo” (by the way, kudos to the names progressives have come up with for these jackasses!) takeover in Oregon, pictured in the screenshot attached to this diary.
My question is, why can’t more local TV stations be like this?
