Alabama’s Governor Robert Bentley, probably best known for having an affair and his wife of 50 years divorcing him. The Governor’s single ladies. What’s a single Governor, in a state with budget issues need to do to get back on that horse? That’s right, spend some of that sweet BP settlement money on renovating the abandoned beach front Governor’s mansion!
Work began earlier this month near Gulf Shores to rehabilitate the two-story, 7,500-square-foot gubernatorial mansion that wasn't fixed after Hurricane Danny in 1997. The project should be done by late May, a spokeswoman for Gov. Robert Bentley, Jennifer Ardis, said Monday.
Ardis said taxpayer money isn't going into the project. Instead, she said grant money provided by BP and left over from the 2010 oil spill is being used to cover the cost, estimated at $1.5 million to $1.8 million.
It should be ready by May, right when the weather is at its best and everyone is out and about in their finest.
Bentley began 2015 asking lawmakers to approve $541 million in tax increases, including an 82-cent cigarette tax increase and changes to the state income tax deductions. Legislators rejected most of his ideas but did approve a 25-cent-per pack cigarette tax and a transfer of $80 million education funds to minimize cuts to state services.
Sorry Alabama, Governor Bentley needs to get his swerve on. I’m also sure this has nothing to do with his recent divorce where he lost two beachfront properties. There’s no point in being an official of dubious moral intergrity if you don’t get a beachfront property out of the deal.
