If you, your kin or friends live in Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, New Mexico, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, or South Carolina, be aware that you’ve got until close of business on Tuesday to register to vote.
That’s tomorrow.
The good news is that in 10 of those states—the ones in boldface above—you can register to vote online. Twenty-one other states also accept online registrations. You can see which ones here.
You can learn other information about registration and voting requirements here.
Logically, these rules ought to be uniform nationwide. But as long as they’re in the hands of state authorities, these differences will remain. Online registration, plus same-day registration, combined with universal balloting by mail backed up by voting in person for those who prefer it, would be the ideal and we should work to make it happen.
But, until that day comes, get yourself registered by your state’s deadline and make sure those you know do too. Do this even if you’re right now thinking you may not vote this year. Because something or somebody may change your mind between now and November 8. Such a shift of heart will count for a big fat zero at the polls unless you’re on the registrar’s roster.
The Republican House can fall. Can you chip in $3 to each of these candidates to help make that happen?
Beyond winning the White House, we must also elect more progressive Democrats in Congress. With the PCCC and Daily Kos, you can now make phone calls to voters in the key districts that will get us more and better Democrats. Click here to start.
