Well, we’re exactly 4 weeks out. I figured this would be a good point to check in and let you guys know how things are going in my long shot attempt to win a 2:1 Republican district (literally Mitt Romney’s hometown) as a progressive Democrat:
LAWN SIGNS: Do they actually make a difference in the election results? After all, "Lawn Signs Don't Vote!" and all that. Research shows that they probably make a small difference overall, though it obviously depends on the candidates, the race and the office.
Still, people like them...and now, I have them! If you live in the Birmingham/Bloomfield, Michigan area and want people to know that you're counting on me to win, let me know and I'll hook you up with your very own lawn sign, which you and your descendants will no doubt treasure as a memento of the 2016 election for generations to come.
On the ground, the Sign Wars have begun…
CANVASSING: Meanwhile, I’m still out there pounding the pavement as many days as I can (not easy given that last week was Rosh Hashanah, this week is Yom Kippur, ACA Open Enrollment is coming up in just 20 days and, of course, I still have my actual day job to content with…
LIT MAILINGS: As I noted the other day, out of the 44,000 registered voters in my district, over 7,000 (actually, over 8,100 as of today) absentee ballots have already been sent out. That’s over 18% of all voters...and yes, I’ve sent lit pieces out to all of them.
I’m assuming the final absentee tally will end up around 10,000. Assuming 90% turnout (it’s very high for POTUS elections in these parts), that leaves perhaps 29,000 more to go.
Normally I wouldn’t be targeting die-hard Republicans...but given the utter meltdown at the RNC & Trump campaigns right now, and given that these are, for the most part, Mitt Romney Republicans and the fact that my opponent still (to the best of my knowledge) endorses Trump even now...I'm strongly considering sending mailings out to the entire district to see what happens.

In addition, please help out Nicole Bedi, running for State Representative here in Michigan’s 40th state House seat!
(in fact, if you can only spare a donation for one of us, please donate to her campaign instead of mine; while I obviously want to win my own race, retaking the state house is more important!)
(In addition, here’s another local candidate who could use some love):
