This is a Thank You diary. A big thank you to the community for it’s positive energy, love, devotion, recs, shares and donations that have helped Aji and Wings meet this moment.
Of course, more needs to be done — like plastering, windows, interior work, etc — but putting a roof on top of the construction that you all have been following over these many weeks now, in my eyes and in my heart, makes it a home. A real home!
This community is awesome.
We asked for facebook shares and tweets and simply getting the word out about Aji and Wings story. We also reminded everyone of the fine silverwork that the artist Wings creates, and have featured many of his beautiful jewelry in these diaries. Sales of his work (which includes photography!) are how Aji and Wings make their living. Aji conveys in words what Wings creates in silver. She maintains and writes two separate blogs daily. Her writing is something I miss dearly on dkos, but I do get to read daily on her blogs. And it’s from your response to our diaries that have brought the progress to this point.
I’d like you to look at this photo. In other photos, you may have seen men working, their backs to the camera as they do their job.
This is the crew that with the building of this home as a community we are supporting. Work is hard to get for the local community. The rich in the area don’t hire these kinds of locals who are highly skilled in their trade.
This is the crew that has worked so hard these past few months, diligently pursuing the goal to complete the home that Aji and Wings so deserve.
That staircase was their solution to get something up so that Aji and Wings could safely climb to the second floor and to replace a more costly plan to have a iron stair case custom made. The house is small, so they needed to plan it carefully to fit without intruding into living space and they also needed to design it so that Wings, with his bad knees, and Aji, with her continuing problems with her own health and balance, could manage easily to climb up to this:
Again — I marvel at the fact that it was just a few months ago that it was this:
Our group wants to say Thank you! Thank You, THANK YOU!!! We’ll still continue to post these diaries until everything is absolutely completed and Aji and Wings are moved in. I kinda like to think how our hearts are all invested in the home building at this point. After six years of homelessness, Aji and Wings are nearly there — back in a home of their own.
So — here are some reminders.
Wings created charms as a Thank You. These are all unique and will not be offered on the NDN Silver site, but announced only in these diaries. This is a example:
Please reach out directly to Aji for those that are remaining. While these charms are attached to a clasp, they could be also worn on a chain or leather thong. There are 12 charms that Wings created: Thunderhead; Crossed Arrows; Broken Arrow; Heart; Badger Paw; Bear Paw; Flower; Water Bird; Four Sacred Directions; Five-Pointed Star; and Starburst." They are $50, plus $5 s/h/i.
HOW TO HELP
- The YouCaring fundraiser allows you to donate specifically to this cause. You can also share the fundraiser via social networks by using the “Grab Our Widget” button (and other social media buttons) on that page.
- Their Amazon wishlist mostly supports the health needs of their rescue animals and themselves, if that’s more your style.
- Purchases from Wings Silverworks will help them make a living the way they’d prefer, by selling Wings’ work as an exceptionally talented NDN silversmith and photographer.
- If you prefer, donate via PayPal at Aji’s blog, or at her Tumblr blog where she posts her own writing and photography.
- Kosmail belinda ridgewood if you absolutely need to donate by mailing a paper check.
- And Tweet, share on FaceBook, tip/rec/republish on Daily Kos, randomly email your friends about it, drop it into casual conversations. This seems minor, but it is not! When you share, please link to this YouCaring page, or embed the widget!
