A criminal defense lawyer, Mirriam Seddiq, is the founder of a group called American Muslim Women. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out what kinds of things they might advocate for. But, if you are not sure, you can go to their site and find out in less than 10 seconds. That kind of deep-dive research is not the forte of “news” organizations and right-wing aggregators like Drudge Report, who ran with this headline:
This kind of rhetoric, fed by Donald Trump and his surrogates and seeded over the last decade by outlets like Fox News and Drudge Report, led to Seddiq waking up to an email linking her to a site selling ammunition covered in pork.
“It’s bullets made to kill Muslims,” said Seddiq.
[...]
While the link meant their site received a wave in traffic, the press release also contained Seddiq and her colleagues’ names and phone numbers.
“We’ve gotten dozens of hate mail to the website. And then our [communications director] said she had gotten about a dozen if not more hate emails,” Seddiq told the Guardian. “And then the phone calls started.”
Seddiq, as with virtually every single Muslim person on the planet, has not enjoyed Donald Trump’s insane stereotyping and hate-filled rhetoric. There were the Trump apologists who suggested that Khizr Khan and his wife were a part of the Muslim Brotherhood—secret jihadists speaking at the Democratic National Convention. Remember when Trump suggested that Khan’s wife was silent during her husband’s powerful DNC speech because of some crazy sexist ideology?
His comments sparked outrage among many, including Seddiq. She said that some Muslim-majority countries have already had female heads of state.
“This is not an unusual thing to have women involved in politics,” said Seddiq.
Some people think that the preponderance of adult diaper commercials on right-wing outlets like Fox News are a result of their older demographic, but I propose an alternative theory—you cannot read or watch right-wing “news” for longer than a few minutes without crapping your pants.
The American Muslim Women PAC is trying to turn these Islamophobic lemons into lemonade by creating a pink T-shirt you can buy on their site.
