I got no time to grieve, no time to whine and moan. Besides, there were a few bright spots in what was otherwise an unmitigated disaster. We DID kick Pat McCrory to the curb. Buck Newton will NOT be NC’s next Attorney General, so he will no longer be “fighting to keep our state straight.”
Judge Bob Edmunds, who upheld The Snake (a Congressional District running along Interstate-85 that if you drove down the Interstate with both car doors open, you’d kill 90 percent of the residents of the District) — Bob Edmunds was defeated. And The Snake was struck down by the Circuit Court.
With Roy Cooper as our next Governor, and Josh Stein as our next Attorney General, HB-2 is dead. It is now only a matter of time. And, because Chris Malone won in NC House District 35...I will be running for this seat in 2018.
I may not win, I certainly hope I can...but I will be North Carolina’s first openly-trans candidate for the NC House. My campaign begins tomorrow. Wendy Davis famously said: “If you don't have a seat at the table, it is probably because you are on the menu.” I am tired of being on the menu here in North Carolina, I am fed up and I am running. Whether or not HB-2 is still in force by then, I am running. I will never forget Chris Malone voted FOR HB-2. And then had the unmitigated gall to tell me that my words on the floor of the House, about being denied a college education because I am transgender...had moved him. Apparently not enough to change his vote on HB-2, of course!
You heard it here first. This is my first official announcement. Angela Bridgman of Wendell, North Carolina...is running on the Democratic Party ticket for NC House District 35 in 2018. It is happening.
