I am continually hearing people say that Hillary Clinton appears to have lost the election with voter turnout in urban areas (and we all know what people are really trying to say there!)...and there’s some truth to that but there’s also the fact that 2012 Obama had more white voters than 2016 Clinton as well, which would appear to have been a decisive vote in Rust Belt states.
Wisconsin Obama 2012- 48% of the white vote Clinton 2016 42% of the white vote
Iowa Obama 2012- 51% of the white vote Clinton 2016-41% of the white vote
Ohio Obama 2012- 41% of the white vote Clinton 2016- 35% of the white vote
Pennsylvania Obama 2012 42% of the white vote Clinton 2016-40% of the white vote
Michigan Obama 2012- 44% of the white vote Clinton 2016-36% of the white vote
In all of these states, Obama’s job approval remains in positive territory with the exception of Iowa which is at 49 approve-50 disapprove (-1)
I know...the auto bailout of 2009 is a partial factor in those 2012 numbers...but President Obama ran on that, too.
Yes, Donald Trump was an openly racist candidate endorsed by the Ku Klux Klan; a candidate that a majority of white people of both genders and all races voted for a racist , for whatever reason.
To me, a black, gay man who is far more vulnerable in America than he was even two days ago, that’s a racist act and make you a racist (and sexist et al. from my perspective).
That does not mean that Hillary Clinton did not run a horrific campaign in the Rust Belt, for all the talk and bluster I read around here: the data is saying that she did.
And we have to be able to say that.
