Some dare call it treason, most will call it secession, but I call it the rational pursuit of enlightened self-interest and long overdue. Yes, I’m continuing my call for California, Oregon, Washington and Hawaii—the progressive U. S. “Left Coast” so full of promise—to peacefully leave the other forty-six states and form a more perfect union of our own. No way! I hear you scream. Break up the United States of America! This great land of ours? Are you mad?
No. Think again. When did you last feel “united?” A part of the main? For upward of three plus decades we’ve pursued pluralism to the point of entropy; the words we now use to describe our governance are divided, gridlocked, stalemated, shut down, sequestered, polarized racially, economically and culturally. For confirmation, take stock of our present 2016 election season in all its novel madness: All we can agree to is our shared addiction to fast food and NFL football and that we are likely to disagree disagreeably on every thing of pith and moment for the foreseeable future.
What else can you do when the center cannot hold? When things fall apart? Disunite. Break up along existing cultural fault lines into smaller, more homogenous and manageable nations. Breaking up is not that hard to do...sometimes it’s the only thing to do. Ask those nearly half of Americans with a first divorce behind them. And so I call upon my fellow citizens of the enlightened Pacific Slope to go west with me and seek our separate destiny on our own tectonic plate, the Pacific, which shall be the root of our name: Pacifica.
-- A Left Coast Manifesto: Why the Pacific States Should Secede and Form Their Own More Perfect Union by Larry L. Meyer
A nation divided cannot stand. And we cannot stand this crap anymore. Secession is no longer a joke or a fantasy; it is viable and necessary. The time has come. We owe it to ourselves and our posterity. We blue state residents waste a significant portion of our resources subsidizing the regressive populace of the backwards, corrupt, homophobic, misogynistic, gun-fetishistic, Klan-loving, under-producing red states, who feed off our largesse and, to show their gratitude, elect a criminal, lying, tax-dodging, narcissistic, fascistic, sociopathic rapist demagogue to reign over us. If not for these deplorable troglodyte throwbacks, today we would be awaiting the inauguration of President Hillary Rodham Clinton, the most capable and qualified presidential candidate in the history of the United States. When in the course of human events the minority imposes their governance upon the majority, something is totally f___ed up. California's economy is the sixth-largest in the world, just behind the UK and ahead of France. For every tax dollar we pay to the U.S. government, we Californians get back 78 cents in federal expenditures. Deep-red Mississippi gets back $2.02 on their tax dollar. The Republican states are welfare queens living off our labors. I say let them support themselves, and stew in their own reactionary juices, while we elect our own leaders and maintain our own just and progressive society.
Secession is completely doable. The #Calexit Independence Referendum will be on the California state ballot next election. Check out the BlueBook FAQs and join the movement.
The coalition with Oregon, Washington and Hawaii would form our new independent nation, a land of democracy, peace, strength, prosperity, equality, tolerance and opportunity. Larry L. Meyer's book lays it all out in brilliant fashion.
You progressives on the Eastern Seaboard face the same situation. Why not rise up to form the sovereign nation of Atlantis? Take control of your own destiny. We will be your intra-continental ally. To progressives stuck in red states, we in Pacifica say, "We lift our lamp beside our golden door."
All Hail Pacifica!
