When Senator Harry Reid, your current party’s leader, described Trump as “a sexual predator who lost the popular vote,” he was speaking the truth on both counts. There has never been a more important time to speak truth to power, in this case, ill begotten power at that. Yet, you feel like it is your duty to reject this golden opportunity to represent the majority of Americans who voted for Hillary. That is loathsome, and deeply embarrassing. Shame on you!
For anyone reading this who has not seen the statement from Sen. Manchin (D?-WV), here ‘tis. . .
“Senator Harry Reid’s statement today attacking President-elect Trump is wrong! It is an absolute embarrassment to the Senate as an institution, our Democratic party, and the nation. I want to be very clear, he does not speak for me,” Manchin said in a news release.
Manchin went on to say, “As difficult as it is for anyone to lose an election, the American people have spoken and Donald Trump is our President-elect. Senator Reid’s words needlessly feed the very divisiveness that is tearing this country apart. Now, more than ever, it is time for us all to come together as Americans. We must as Secretary Clinton and President Obama so graciously said, have an open mind and give President-elect Trump the chance to lead. To be clear, as I have always said and believed, I will work with anyone, no matter their party, to improve the lives of West Virginians and all Americans. Just as I will oppose anyone who may propose policies that hurt our nation; we are Americans first, not Democrats or Republicans first. Unfortunately, there are some who forget that at times like these it is wrong to put party and politics above our country.”
Back to you Mr. Senator. . . the response to my bolded clips write themselves. The American people have spoken, with a resounding plurality of voters rejecting DT and voting for HRC. Even with the arcane electoral college process, there were more than enough voters for HRC to best DT, if not for the verifiable effect of voter suppression (Crosscheck!) that occurred in swing states (Greg Palast). The point is, the American people were stifled in their attempt to speak, and still Trump lost the popular vote. I need not add any more to the discussion about him being a sexual predator. How dare you turn your head from that reality, as if he is the weird uncle in the family with repeatedly reprehensible conduct toward women that the family doesn’t discuss at Thanksgiving. How dare you?
The divisiveness that is tearing our country apart, and putting party and politics above country are the conjoined twins of the Republican party playbook for the entirety of the Obama administration, if not all the way back to when Reagan was running against Carter. The Republican party has demonstrated zero interest in putting country above their own greed and partisan desire for power. Trump himself set a new low bar in divisiveness that attempted to tear the country apart. How dare you look the other way and lecture Harry Reid, and the rest of us who are mad as hell and not going to take it anymore?
We are very well aware of the fact that you are scheduled to run for re-election in 2018. As it stands right now, it is YOU who does not speak for me or anyone else who considers themselves a real Democrat. Donald Trump is a bullying, misogynistic, racist, petulant xenophobe. He does not deserve any decent person’s respect, President-Elect, or not. He deserves to be called what he is, and for the entire Democratic Party to treat him with exactly the same amount of respect that Obama was treated with by the Republicans. If you had authentic credentials as a true Democrat, the reality of this comparison would have long ago informed you that your outburst against Senator Reid was most inappropriate.
There are rumors that you are considering caucusing with the Republicans. Either way, we are going to fully support a real Democratic challenger against you, whether you are running as a faux Democrat or a Republican, because we, not you, care about our party and our nation.
