The Recount Is ON!
As reported moments ago on Jill Stein’s Twitter account:
confirmed by Wisconsin Elections:
That’s right, De La Fuente has also filed. In her interview with Brad Friedman Wednesday, Brad noted that De La Fuente was also on the ballot in Wisconsin. Stein reacted immediately with a commitment to contacting De La Fuente and inviting him to join them in the Wisconsin filing. Obviously she was successful! (Thank you, Brad!)
First media report of the filing was by The Hill:
Green Party candidate Jill Stein officially requested a recount of Wisconsin’s presidential vote tally.
Stein filed her request just before the deadline Friday afternoon, the Wisconsin Election Commission announced.
Volunteers Needed — Step Up Kossacks!
The recount will begin next week and Stein is calling for volunteers. You can register as a volunteer in your county here:
Wisconsin Volunteers
Pennsylvania Volunteers
Michigan Volunteers
I want to see as many kossacks as possible in the volunteer pools so we get insider information accurately reported to us.
DoJ’s Role
There’s been considerable confusion over the DoJ’s role. It began with a bogus post, apparently originating in Reddit (surprise, surprise) claiming the DoJ was tallying calls from people who want an audit of the 2016 election. That has been well and truly debunked now.
Unfortunately the bogus claim and its debunking obscured the DoJ’s real role. Tacked onto the end of their report about the bogus claims, Washington Post’s last two paragraphs state:
That is not to say the Justice Department would not investigate actual allegations of voter or ballot fraud. Before the election, the department promulgated extensive, real information on the topic and asked those with complaints to report them. They would investigate voter intimidation, election practices that discriminated or other violations of federal law, and would still do so.
But they would do it based on actual evidence of violations, rather than intensity of griping over the result.
In fact it was the DoJ’s call-out for complaints to be reported directly to them that became erroneously inflated into the bogus claim that went viral. Had the accurate call-out gone viral instead, it would have done a lot more good.
The DoJ are still open to receiving anecdotal evidence of any unusual or suspicious experiences/incidents related to the general election so please pass on the facts and encourage anyone with a genuine concern to report it.
