We obtained a copy of dispatch from the original shooting from the Rickey Rozelle shooting form SGT.John Poulos. I must say the results are disturbing to say the least. Based on the time frame it appears that Poulos called twice in three and one half minutes. This is questionable to say the least it appears that Polous “allegedly,” had already shot Rozelle.
- About 11:40 p.m., the off-duty officer saw Rozelle trying to break into the rear entrance of a second-floor apartment in the 1900 block of North Lincoln Avenue, police said at the time.
- He identified himself as a police officer and ordered Rozelle to come down, police said. Rozelle eventually came down, but would not show the officer his hands.
- Then the suspect “threatened the officer’s life” and pulled a “shiny object” out of his waistband as he ran at the officer, prompting the off-duty officer to shoot him, police said at the time. The officer was not injured.
- Rozelle, of the 6100 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue, was dead at the scene, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.\
- Authorities could not immediately say at the time whether a weapon was found at the scene.
The First call comes in at 11:38:08 from Poulos
The Second call comes in at 11:41:22 from Poulos
The time-frame between the first and second call was three minutes and fourteen seconds.
