You thought that you had more than a binary choice in the election of the president.
You don’t.
This isn’t a nation with a Parliament and real representative government. We’re stuck in a binary form of national politics with two massive Parties and there is simply no way out of that paradigm, short of another Revolution.
Now we do see a lot of young people out in the streets marching these days, but they never seem to have a unifed reason to rally around, and so the marching (and the vandalism which always comes with it) goes on for a few days and then ends. Nothing changes.
But a real revolution would reqire real sacrifice. Do you see your fellow countrymen giving up their iPhones and their fast food meals and their social media surfing lifestyles to really bring down the current government?
I sure as hell don’t.
Which means that you must give up your ideas of some political paradise, where you get to vote FOR a good candidate. Because you aren’t going to find one. There is no candidate whom you would find acceptable, because you’re looking for a unicorn in a world in which they don’t exist. You need to find a candidate you can agree with, at least half the time. That’s about the best we ever get in modern America.
Because we live in a country with 320 million other people in it and very few of them think just like you or want exactly what you want.
That’s the problem with diversity, along with it comes the necessity of accepting that you, you special little snowflake you, will not ever get just what you want. You must learn to settle for what you can get, not what you want. Because that is the reality of HOW THINGS WORK.
You sound rather proud of your decision to vote “your conscience” in the recent election. Gotta ask you, “how does that feel now”? Because if this had been a normal year and the other option was someone like Mitt Romney, it would’ve been bearable.
But you, and all of the rest of the folks who voted 3rd Party or just didn’t bother to vote at all? You fuckers have consigned the rest of us and all the world to four years with a fucking raging greedy grifter running the show.
So fuck you and your “I don’t know why more people aren’t interested in listening to me whine about why I’m not happy with things” screed.
You want better candidates to vote for? Get involved and run for office yourself. Put your life and money and time where your mouth is, then get back to me.
I get to say this to you, because I DID exactly that this year. I ran for Congress. I’ve already taken on a campaign manager position for someone else who is now willing to do it in 2018. I’ll be running for my county council seat in 2019, when it comes open. Because I am willing to do the hard work.
Not just bitch and moan online about how things didn't work out and how the Party let me down and how things aren’t just fucking perfect.
