OK, I just threw up in my mouth and I’m writing this with the taste of vomit on my tongue and in my throat. Sour and burning is exactly where we are now as we watch Donald Trump assume the Presidency even before he is actually inaugurated as President. Given the passivity on the Democratic side, this was to be expected. The Dems are expert at leaving a vacuum for the other side to fill.
So anyway, to the point …
I just saw a report that Ivanka will be meeting with Al Gore to rap about climate change:
Ivanka Trump will meet former Vice President Al Gore on Monday to discuss climate issues, President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team said.
Trump spokesman Jason Miller did not elaborate about the meeting. But the president-elect’s daughter reportedly wants to make climate change an issue while her father is in the White House. Gore is an activist who has founded a nonprofit dedicated to “solving the climate crisis.”
(snip)
Trump has called climate change a hoax but appears to have softened his view. In a meeting last month with the New York Times, Trump said he had an “open mind” to the 2015 Paris climate-change accord. He also said he thought there was “some connectivity” between human activity and climate change.
Miller said Donald Trump would not be meeting with Gore.
Apparently, Ivanka is daddy’s
avatar among the moneyed left-wing elite, is now poised to be the first “first daughter” in modern history to play a larger public role than the first lady. And she’s positioning herself exactly as she did that weekend — as a bridge to moderates and liberals disgusted and depressed with the tone and tenor of the new leader of the free world.
And the ambitious daughter, who once plotted her career around international brand domination, is planning to take on an even heavier lift. Ivanka wants to make climate change — which her father has called a hoax perpetuated by the Chinese — one of her signature issues, a source close to her told Politico. The source said Ivanka is in the early stages of exploring how to use her spotlight to speak out on the issue.
According to Politico,
Over the past week, New Yorkers concerned about Trump’s election have posted “Dear Ivanka” letters on social media and outside the Puck Building in lower Manhattan, which is owned by her husband. One theme of the letters is a fear that Trump will dismantle the Obama administration’s signature climate change policies.
So maybe that’s one way to go to help moderate Trump. Maybe it’s worth whatever effort could be made to influence Ivanka to influence her daddy. Yes, it’s grabbing at straws, but that’s really all we have left.
