The Trump transition team asked the Department of Energy for the names of federal employees and contractors who attended United Nations climate change meetings in the last five years and the names of Obama administration personnel who developed a means of calculating the social cost of carbon pollution.
The purpose of the request is transparent when placed in the context of the repeated statements by Trump that climate change is a hoax perpetrated by the Chinese.
Then there is the likely appointment of the Rex Tillerson, the chairman, president, and CEO of Exxon Mobil Corporation, as Trump’s Secretary of State.
A Trumpurge of federal employees and contractors involved in trying to save Humanity from climate chaos is clearly being signaled.
Perhaps this purge is the first overt adoption of Russian-style politics by the candidate the CIA says was favored by the Russians.
The Russians have a history of imposing erroneous science based on political influence. Trofim Denisovich Lysenko was a scientist in the Soviet Union, who rejected the science of genetics developed by Gregor Mendel. Instead, Lysenko developed his own genetic theory that came to be called Lysenkoism. Because Stalin favored Lysenko, the Soviet Union outlawed any dissent from Lusenkoism.
Because Lysenko was wrong and Mendel was right, the political imposition of Lysenkoism significantly set back biological research in the Soviet Union.
Now climate denial will be the new Lysenkoism. Any federal personnel or contractors accepting climate chaos as a challenge to be addressed will be potential targets for the coming purge.
Only this time it is the entire Human population that will face the catastrophic results of climate denial.
The only saving grace of a Trumpurge would be the illegal nature of such an action, particularly if taken against civil servants. The first article of impeachment can already be drafted to await further developments.
Of course finding enough Republicans in the House to support impeachment, even for crimes against Humanity, will be another challenge.
