Kurt Eichenwald has been a bur in the butt of Donald Trump and his campaign for most of the year. So it should surprise no one that he’s been a favorite target of the Twitter trolls acting in Trump’s name.
Well, one of them went way too far after Eichenwald’s rather contentious interview with Tucker Carlson last night. This bottom-feeder, with the blatantly anti-Semitic username “Jew_Goldstein,” tweeted Eichenwald a GIF with rapidly flashing lights. Eichenwald has intractable epilepsy, and has undergone treatment for it since his college days.
Within minutes, Eichenwald’s wife took to her husband’s account with a message for this deplorable.
By the next morning, Twitter had suspended the “Jew_Goldstein” account. But Eichenwald is still badly shaken by the events, and fired off a blizzard of tweets to announce he’s going on hiatus from Twitter for awhile—and fully intends to track down this scumbag.
It turns out that after Eichenwald wrote his explosive piece on Trump’s massive conflicts of interest, someone tweeted him a video with flashing strobe lights—an obvious attempt to cause a seizure. Fortunately, Eichenwald dropped his iPad soon after realizing what was happening, so that disaster was averted.
Eichenwald sounds dead serious about nailing this jerk to the wall. And well he should be. This was as close to a violent crime as you can get online, and whoever did this needs to be locked up for as long as legally possible.
Get well soon, Kurt—and keep up the fight.
