Merry Christmas from Daily Bucket and the Backyard Science group.
This is the third in the Alphabet Bucket series. Today’s Bucket is brought to you by the letter “C”.
* — We apologize for the conifer being artificial in this instance.
The Daily Bucket is a regular feature of the Backyard Science group. It is a place to note any observations you have made of the world around you. Insects, weather, meteorites, climate, birds and/or flowers. All are worthy additions to the bucket. Please let us know what is going on around you in a comment. Include, as close as is comfortable for you, where you are located. Each note is a record that we can refer to in the future as we try to understand the patterns that are quietly unwinding around us.

A bit bird heavy today — but the cardinal is near mandatory due to coloration, common name, and Latin name all matching the day and today’s letter.
I chose chalk as a nice representative carbonate rock. It also often contains flint — which is a variety of chert which forms as bands or nodules within the formation. The shingle at Ault is formed of rounded flint cobbles that have eroded out of the chalk.

And I am saving Canis familiaris for Attack Gardener to add a sample in the comments. For previous works featuring Gracie the Wonder Pug see The Daily Bark-It.
Now It's Your Turn
What creatures or plants with “C” names have you interacted with in your area or travels? As usual post your observations as well as their general location in the comments.
