Bernie Sanders was on Chris Hayes’ show to discuss Donald Trump in the wake of the orange-elect’s attacks on union leader Chuck Jones. Hayes asked him if we are stuck in a cycle where the Republicans and Trump will tank the economy and still be able to successfully blame the Democrats or can we break the cycle. Bernie had this to say:
Well, you're raising a very profound question. And that is what do you do when you have a president-elect, soon to be president, who, and I say this not happily, but I think most people who observe them would agree, is a pathological liar. Who changes his mind every single day. And what you're asking, does any of that matter? I think the answer is, and I am working very hard on this, and we need the help of the American people, obviously, is to build a movement of millions of people who actually are following reality.
Okay? And that's -- that's the challenge. Real change in this country, I am more and more convinced of it, is not going to come from capitol hill. It's going to come from grassroots America.
While we cannot forget that the majority of Americans voted for Hillary Clinton, the fact remains that if Clinton had won we would still need to continue to fight for unions and workers and women and healthcare. Our tent is big enough to to fight in and still get where we want to go.
