While Nevada did not go our way On Saturday afternoon, Bernie Sanders with our support, competed in a state that was deemed “out of reach” and “too diverse” to win. While we may have come up short in the delegate count after the Caucus, our mission is not over in trying to change the system. As this campaign goes on and the message of what it is to be a Progressive gets heard loud and clear, the more popular the movement to retake government becomes.
Bernie Sanders said it best when he stated that we needed a “Political Revolution” if we are to change our government so that it works for all of us, not just a handful of millionaires and billionaires. He was right. But, this change takes time, and there will be speed bumps that we hit along the way that won’t be easy or always fun, but we will overcome them if we stick together. If we stick together, there is nothing that we can’t achieve together. If we stick together, we can change this country so that real progress can be felt by every American, rich AND poor.
By sticking together, we can pass an agenda in Congress that helps ALL Americans. This agenda is the Progressive American Agenda. This agenda will benefit ALL Americans on every rung of the economic ladder. This agenda will make sure that we preserve our democracy and return the power back to the American people so that once again we can become the land of opportunity for all who strive for it.
Progressive American Agenda:
- A $15/HR minimum wage so that an American worker will never again work full-time and still be in poverty. Raising the minimum to $15 will not only help workers in our economy but will also increase profits for employers. Study after study has shown that raising the minimum wage raises every major economic indicator and increases job growth. It’s basic economics.
- Never again should an American citizen go without healthcare coverage, which is why I will push for a single-payer, Medicare-For-All, health care system that covers every American and makes healthcare a right, once and for all.
- Making college accessible to every child is a must if we are to lead the world in innovation and wealth in the future. I will push legislation that makes attendance at our public colleges free for every student who graduates high school and wishes to attend college. This program will pay for itself when we graduate our next leaders in politics, medicine and technology.
- Here in my district in NV-03 too many families are suffering from underwater mortgages that are not only harming families and their pocketbooks but the economy as a whole. If we can bail out Wall St., we can bail out Main Street. It’s now time that we do so. I will push legislation that helps American families renegotiate their mortgages at current market value, which will help families across the nation and specifically in areas like here in Las Vegas, that have still not recovered from the Great Recession.
These ideas are not radical nor are they new; we just haven’t had a leader representing the 3rd District of Nevada in Congress that has had the courage to do what’s right for their constituents. That is why I am running for Congress. It’s time we had a leader who put the needs of their constituents above that of their personal ambition. This campaign isn’t about me; it’s about you. This campaign is powered by you, the people, who demand that we change our system so that together, we can once again achieve extraordinary things.
When you send me to Congress, I will never stop fighting for your needs and will always be your voice in policy discussions. I will always push for what is best for you and your family and will never push legislation just to have an achievement to my name.
I hope you’ll join me in our campaign to retake Washington and revolutionize the system so that it once again works for ALL Americans!
