Ted Cruz wants the Republican base to know that he's just as delusional and cruel when it comes to immigration as Donald Trump, right down to the forced deportations and the wall.
Cruz told Fox News host Bill O'Reilly on Monday that yes, should he be elected president, his administration would deport all 12 million undocumented people estimated to be in the U.S. and wouldn't allow them to return.
"We should enforce the law ... federal law requires that anyone here illegally that's apprehended should be deported," Cruz said. "Of course" he'd look for undocumented immigrants, he said.
Cruz said America would build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, triple the border force and establish biometric entry systems "so we will know the day someone overstays their visa."
This is a prime example of "if you can't beat ‘em, join ‘em." Back in January, Cruz told Jake Tapper, "I don't intend to send jackboots to knock on your door and every door in America. That's not how we enforce the law for any crime. […] We also don't have people going door-to-door looking for murderers. We don't live in a police state. We do have law enforcement."
O'Reilly followed up, asking if Cruz would hunt down a fictitious Irishman "Tommy O'Malley" who overstayed a tourist visa to boot him out. "You better believe it," said Cruz, thereby proving that he's as much of a monster you thought all along.
