I wrote a diary about Astrid Silva’s ringing endorsement of Hillary Clinton.
When I was writing it up, I decided to check for some reaction on Twitter. Scrolling through Armando’s Twitter feed, he retweeted several tweets about how the Sanders campaign dismissed Silva's endorsement.
One tweet was from a Sanders paid staffer, who is his Press Secretary for Latino outreach. She dismissed Astrid’s endorsement as a "press hit”. The Sanders for President Twitter account retweeted this very tone deaf response.
Astrid Silva is a DREAMer and a well known activist in the Latino community. To dismiss her endorsement as a “press hit” was poor form and foolish. Even worse, it's tone deaf. Latino’s look up to activists like Astrid Silva. She’s actually fought for DREAMers and immigrants.
She could have worried about her status, but she didn't. She fought for others!
I understand being disappointed about not receiving an endorsement. I don't understand going after and belittling people who are champions in the Latino community. Why does every Clinton endorsement have to go this way?
How about some class? How about some respect for an activist who’s been fighting for the Latino community?
Is this the type of Latino outreach the Sanders campaign believes is effective?
If so, it's a losing strategy.

When news of the endorsement broke, Sanders’ national Latino press secretary, Erika Andiola, dismissed the endorsement on Twitter, calling it “a press hit.”
State Sen. Tick Segerblom, who supports Sanders, called the endorsement “ironic” on Twitter, saying “dreamers are telling us not to dream.”
NV State Sen. who Supports Sanders. Seems to be a theme here.

A prominent immigration reform advocate and community organizer from Las Vegas who has helped influence Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid garnered more national recognition this week.
The American Immigration Council’s Immigrant Youth Achievement Award winner is Astrid Silva, an organizer for the Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada.
Silva has been on of the most visible faces of Las Vegas’ immigration reform movement, going public with her undocumented status before getting a work permit through the deferred action for childhood arrivals program.
"We are overwhelmed with pride that Astrid is receiving this much-deserved national recognition," Bob Fulkerson, state director for PLAN, said in a statement. "Not a day goes by that Astrid does not impress us with her tenacity, selflessness and the impossible amount of infectious joy she brings to organizing, despite she and her family living the heart-breaking realities of our broken immigration system every single day."
Reid shared Silva’s story last year on the Senate floor while arguing for the passage of a sweeping immigration reform bill.
"When comprehensive immigration reform finally passes, it will be because of organizers like Astrid who wouldn't take no for an answer," Laura Martin, communications director for PLAN, said in a statement. "Astrid could have quietly gone on to fix her own status, but she selflessly uses her story to motivate community members across the state to take action and make the case for comprehensive immigration reform with a pathway to citizenship."
