just picked up on reports that twitter is filling with people who were unable to process donations on ActBlue during Sanders’ New Hampshire victory speech.
Fundraising site struggles after Bernie Sanders’ New Hampshire win
“I’m not going to New York City to host a fundraiser on Wall Street. Instead I’m going to hold a fundraiser right here, right now, across America. My request is please go to BernieSanders.com and contribute,” Sanders said Tuesday night, as his speech was carried live.
And one minute later, it was over, “So there it is, that’s our fundraiser. Pretty quick.”
But Twitter quickly filled with complaints from Sanders supporters who said their donations were not being processed — the Sanders campaign relies on ActBlue to collect donations through its campaign site.
ActBlue fundraising erupts after Sanders' win
Democratic donations through ActBlue, the online fundraising service used by Bernie Sanders and many other Democratic candidates and committees, skyrocketed Tuesday night after Sanders won New Hampshire.
Online donors gave more than $550,000 to Democratic groups in about an hour between 8:45 p.m. and 9:45 p.m., according to the counter on the front page of ActBlue's website. That includes nearly a quarter-million dollars that flowed through ActBlue during Sanders' victory speech.
There is no way of telling how that money was divided, but Sanders surely sparked the surge — the counter rose particularly quickly as he called for "a fundraiser right here, right now" in his speech.
"My request, please, go to BernieSanders.com and contribute," Sanders told supporters and the audience watching on television.
UPDATE 11:09 p.m.: Some Sanders supporters are reporting trouble donating to Sanders tonight as fans flooded ActBlue. The group acknowledged some technical issues in a tweet:
Not bad for a 1-minute break-to-hear-from-our-sponsors during the victory speech that announced one of the greatest political upsets in U.S. history and the largest winning margin in a New Hampshire Democratic primary since JFK!
His next quarter’s total donations are going to be YUUUGE!!!!!
