On this day last year, we published our original “Crazy/Stupid Republican of the Day” profile of Al Baldasaro, from the New Hampshire House of Representatives. Baldasaro is truly reality-challenged, having claimed in 2010 that the state of New Hampshire was selling children to homosexual families for $10,000 each in a hearing where he continually would say “no disrespect” after each homophobic accusation he uttered, as if that negated it. Which, he probably also believes was possible when Baldasaro commented on the 2012 GOP debate where a gay soldier was booed by the crowd, and said it was “great” and the soldier’s admission was “disgusting”. Baldasaro also warned against the United Nations Agenda 21 environimental treaty as stripping a citizen’s right to go fishing (which makes no sense), and believes there is a “secret” alternate 13th Amendment to the Constitution which bans people of noble lineage from holding office. We also are re-sharing the same profile photo of Al Baldasaro that is from his wedding, where he posed with the whole bridal party with firearms, because he loves the 2nd Amendment arguably as much as his wife.
Baldasaro was the top Republican receiving votes in New Hampshire’s Rockingham District 5, of the state legislature, but there’s a decent chance that he might make himself infamous before the 2016 elections, and turn off voters enough that they reject him, and his party. Because, good people, we our proud to report that Al Baldasaro has become a spokesperson for the campaign to elect Donald Trump for president. And in this role, we’re seeing more and more of Al, using the higher profile to say dumber and dumber things to the media.
Which a paranoid bigot like Baldasaro fits into that role like a glove. Case in point, on November 5th, 2015, Baldasaro got on Facebook to share the story of a Muslim immigrant from Somalia who moved to Sweden, and was caught by police after raping and murdering a woman to death… and beyond (which is of course, not exactly an actual real version of events, it’s the inflammatory version shared all over anti-Islamic and white supremacy websites). That’s right, it’s not enough for Al Baldasaro to heighten Islamophobic fears about Muslims that want to kill you. And they don’t just want to rape you. They want to combine the two for necrophilic rape. NOW VOTE FOR TRUMP!
And it’s perhaps Al Baldasaro’s fears about Muslims being, in his mind, downright savage, is why he’s comfortable with Donald Trump’s idea to ban all Muslims from entering the United States if he’s elected. He assured everybody the idea was alright, because, again, as he put it:
“What he’s saying is no different than the situation during World War II, when we put the Japanese in camps. The people who attacked innocent people in Paris came through open borders. From a military mind standpoint, all Donald Trump is saying is to do what needs to be done until we get a handle on how to do background checks.“
Ah yes. Japanese internment camps. A violation of the Constitutional rights of Japanese Americans based on a hysterical overreaction that President Reagan apologized to those who suffered in them back in 1988. That’s how we’ll "Make America Great Again.”
Just last week, Baldasaro went on CNN on behalf of Donald Trump to try and argue in favor of Trump’s stance on using torture. Not “enhanced interrogation”, but straight up torture. Feel free to watch the video of Lt. General Mark Hertling humiliate Baldasaro, and tell him that the U.S. Military will not be Donald Trump’s “palace guards” and do his bidding in violation of international law.
But that’s not all. Even just in his daily affairs in Concord, Al Baldasaro managed to make an ass of himself. A bill seeking to criminalize new forms of public nudity, New Hampshire Republicans wanted a woman showing any part of their nipples in public to be a misdemeanor offense, but not men. After Rep. Amanda Bouldin shared the content of the bill on Facebook, calling it sexist, and Baldasaro was one of two members of the GOP who came running to defend their legislation… by shaming her in the most misogynistic and insultng ways possible:
“No disrespect, but your nipple would be the last one I would want to see. You want to turn our family beach’s into a pervert show.”
Classic Baldasaro, right? Saying terrible things by prefacing them with “no disrespect”. I mean, the least of the crazy things we can add to Al Baldasaro’s running profile here is his support for repealing the buffer zone for protesters around abortion clinics. We’re expecting that over the next eight months, as Baldasaro continues to stump for Trump, that his cavalcade of intolerance will continue.
