Yesterday, I made an early morning re-post on Facebook about the Mosul University bombing. For the remainder of the day, I was away from the internet doing video work. But somewhere around mid-day, I saw that Brussels had been attacked. I wondered if there was a connection. I figured I would find out when I got home. But, to my surprise, there was no coverage whatsoever about the bombing in Mosul. In fact, my Facebook post had been deleted or censored by Facebook.
After digging around a bit, I discovered that Mosul Eye (a Mosul news source), still had the original video.
They wrote:
Today, Mosul is going through its worst days. ISIL has exhausted this safe and quite city, and displaced its citizens and killed them. This city once used to be safe and secure, has become a giant graveyard and massive prison. People are very perplexed, unable to to leave or to stay. They are abandoned by everyone, the children, women and the elderly.
Mosul today is in a great distress Scarcity in food, Medicine and water Fearful and terrified ISIL is still killing, detaining and stoning people in Mosul, and the Mosulis are torn between the death by ISIL's bullets, or by the bombardment
Pray for Mosul.
My heart goes out to the victims in both attacks, but I can't help but wonder if Brussels is ISIL’s retaliation for the Mosul.
In January, a similarly bleak video was posted with the following text:
To the Free World
We the people of Mosul We are under siege We send you our true message because we can't speak for ourselves We are under the oppression of ISIL and we need your help This is our death sentence But we refuse to die. Please help us.
Among the dead, Dr. Dhafir Ramadan Matar Albadrani, the former dean of the College of Computer and Arithmetic sciences and his wife.
For more info and updates, I highly recommend just going to the Mosul Eye page, as I can’t seem to find much more information elsewhere.
