NOTE: IF YOU’RE GOING TO SHARE THIS, I’D PREFER IT IF YOU LINK TO THE ORIGINAL VERSION, WHICH INCLUDES FAR MORE DETAIL, THANKS!
OK, this is the 3rd revision of this pie chart, but I promise it’s the last one unless anyone can show that I’ve made a major error in my methodology or estimates.
Aside from making some modifications to the actual numbers/percentages for each section based on more in-depth review, here are the major changes since the original version posted on Friday:
- Broke out Employer Insurance into Lg. Group / Small Group
- Broke out Medicare Advantage into it’s own section
- Broke out Traditional Medicaid into Adults & Children programs
- Broke out Medicaid Woodworkers
- Changed the order to group the (now 4) ACA-specific sections together to make it easier to see the impact of the law
- Simplified the color-coding to make it easier to distinguish the different types of coverage (or lack thereof)
- Added color-coding to the key on the side to make this easier as well
More importantly for data nerds/healthcare wonks, here’s the full methodology, including source links for pretty much every single data point above!
Again, regarding the Incremental Change vs. Single Payer Now debate, as I noted last Friday:
I’m presenting the following not as a way of influencing people one way or the other, because in many ways it illustrates both perspectives: The absurd complexity of the current system (Single Payer Rox!!) and how incredibly difficult it will be to replace it (Step by Step, Folks!!).
Depending on your POV, you could use this to make your case either way.
