Diana Hussein just did something pretty amazing. She didn’t have to do it. Hussein had a choice and could have personally benefited with all kinds of perks. Instead she chose to help others. It’s about taking the best part of our human spirit—and using it for good.
The Detroit News writes:
When Diana Hussein selected her Twitter handle by glancing at a can of Diet Dr Pepper during a research class in 2009, she never imagined that fateful choice might one day help others in need.
The Dearborn resident recently agreed to let the company behind the popular soft drink take her well-known moniker in exchange for some 41,000 water bottles distributed to Flint residents affected by the water crisis.
Dr. Pepper officials initially offered her company “swag,” but Hussein wanted something else. The 29-year communications specialist realized the Dr. Pepper Snapple Group also owns Deja Blue water and asked water be sent to Flynt.
Hussein now has a new Twitter handle and people are visiting to thank her, including Democratic Senator Jim Ananich.
Hussein says the virtual reaction has been “overwhelming.”
“I’m impressed how positive the Internet has been. Normally there’s a lot more negativity coming from people. … Even my father was reading comments and he was really overwhelmed by what people are saying.”
Realizing the Flint crisis will not be fixed anytime soon, Hussein is urging others to help.
“Those people are still greatly affected,” she said. “The outlook for when things are going to be fixed for them is not any time soon.”
Cheers to Diana Hussein and all those who step up to help others in need.
