One year ago we published our original “Crazy/Stupid Republican of the Day” profile of the current U.S. House Representative from South Carolina’s 3rd District, Jeff Duncan, who in that original spotlight, we discussed the fact that Rep. Duncan hung out with the very, very insane Rick Wiles to discuss his desire to investigate President Obama’s birth certificate, as well as the time he had Secretary of State John Kerry testifying at a Benghazi hearing and asked him why the United States embassy in Libya was smuggling arms to Syrian rebels (for which Kerry schooled him like a kindergarten teacher). Duncan has also warned against a federal gun registry, warning that it would be used so that liberals could hunt down every last gun owner and hack them to death with a machete, just like how “the Hutus slaughtered the Tutsis in Rwanda”. Duncan has also compared illegal immigrants to “vagrants and animals”, participated in Chik-Fil-A Apprecation Day to support the fast food chain’s anti-gay support, denies climate change, and voted against Hurricane Sandy relief. Oh, and speaking of what we covered in his voting record, he was a big supporter of the 2013 Government Shutdown, so much so that when the time came to reopen the government, Duncan voted to keep it closed.
Jeff Duncan won re-election in the 2014 mid-term elections with 71% of the vote over Democrat Barbara Jo Mullis, and is now serving in his third term in office since being elected in the Tea Party Wave of 2010. He continues to be one of the most prolifically conservative, and rabidly partisan men in Congress:
- On January 22nd, 2015, an anti-abortion bill, HR 7, was moving through the House, and was halted because even some members of the GOP were put off by the language in the bill regarding its definition of rape. Jeff Duncan, however, had no problem with that, and voted for it anyway.
- January 23rd, 2015: Rep. Duncan introduced HR 492, a bill that would require all women seeking an abortion in the United States to first get a medically unnecessary mandatory ultrasound. The legislation failed, mightily.
- On February 3rd, 2015, Rep. Duncan co-sponsors and votes for the 60th Republican attempt at repealing the Affordable Care Act. This in spite of the fact that the law is not just working, but better than experts predicted.
- On March 3rd, 2015, Jeff Duncan votes against funding the Department of Homeland Security as part of a Republican protest of President Obama’s executive orders on immigration.
- May 13th, 2015, Rep. Duncan votes for HR 36, a ban on abortion at 20 weeks.
- On September 11th, 2015, Duncan votes against the United States’ nuclear treaty with Iran.
- On September 18th, 2015, Rep. Duncan votes with most House Republicans to defund Planned Parenthood, based on highly edited “sting” videos submitted by a Pro-Life advocacy group that have been repeatedly debunked by investigators.
- November 13th, 2015: Jeff Duncan goes off half-cocked after the Paris Terror attacks, and goes on Twitter to sarcastically ask:
“How’s that Syrian refugee resettlement look now? How about that mass migration into Europe? Terrorism is alive & well in the world. #No”
Of course, no Syrian nationals or Syrian refugees took part in the attacks, so…
- November 19th, 2015: Duncan co-sponsors and votes for the American Security Against Foreign Enemies Act, reacting to the terror attacks in Paris by jihadists from France and Belgium by trying to create greater restrictions to keep out Syrian refugees, of whom exactly zero were involved in those attacks. One terrorist had a fake passport of a member of Assad’s army, apparently to create a false trail to help in their escape, or hoping that the attacks would be blamed on Syrian refugees, and the governments of nations like France and the United States would fall for it and not allow refugees to escape ISIS abroad. And… the Congresswoman fell for it.
- February 2nd, 2016: Jeff Duncan votes for HR 3762, the 61st attempt by Congressional Republicans to repeal the Affordable Care Act (which is still working better than was predicted).
- February 22nd, 2016: Following the death of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, the always obstructionist Rep. Duncan is one of 37 Republicans who quickly respond by sending a letter to Sen. Mitch McConnell, where they strenuously request the confirmation of Scalia’s replacement wait almost an entire year, at least, until the next president is inaugurated.
South Carolina’s 3rd District has a +18 Republican lean in the Cook Partisan Voting Index, and Jeff Duncan, a local hero from his days playing wide receiver at Clemson, is apparently as untouchable as it gets right now in the 2016 elections. We mean that literally, too… at the time of this posting, Duncan is unopposed in his attempt at re-election. Lord knows what idiocy he’ll give the country between now and 2019. At least we know he’ll consistently give us something to write about…
