You may have heard that Pfizer, the enormous pharmaceutical corporation and notorious drug price-gouger, was planning to dodge an estimated $35 BILLION in U.S. taxes it owes, after completing a merger with an Irish company later this year.
So we joined a coalition to stop this. And over 200,000 people, many thousands of whom are from the Daily Kos community, called on President Obama and the Treasury Department to stop Pfizer’s massive tax dodge.
And today we saw a victory!
Obama and the Treasury Department issued a new rule that will stop Pfizer and other companies from getting a tax break when they desert the United States for an offshore tax haven.
This is a great step toward a more equal system, where big corporations pay their fair share of taxes.
And of course, when corporations pay taxes, we benefit. That money can be used to invest in education, infrastructure, renewable energy, and so much more.
Now please help us celebrate this win: Thank Obama for taking this step to reform our rigged system.
Thanks! I’m so glad to be part of this community and part of this win. Just in time for Tax Day, too! What are your thoughts on this Tax Day victory?
