Noam Chomsky on Climate Change, and Militarism:
Noam Chomsky: There are two huge dangers the human species faces. We’re now in a situation where we now have to decide if the species survives in any decent form. One is the rising danger of nuclear war,
which is quite serious. The other is environmental catastrophe. now on the issues Donald Trump and the other Republicans candidates are basically uniform.
Cathy Newman: Do you believe that Hillary Clinton the Democratic front runner would champion those issues in a way that would satisfy you?
Noam Chomsky: Not in any way that would satisfy me, but at least she recognizes it that climate change going on and that we have to do something about it. Every single Republican candidate denies that it’s happening with the sole exception of Kachik who says sure it’s happening but we shouldn’t do anything about it. And that’s having an impact! The Paris negotiations last December were aiming at a treaty, they couldn’t reach it, for one simple reason the Republican Congress would not accept it. So it’s a voluntary agreement which means even the weak standards that were proposed will be ah, barley, maybe, it undermines the likelihood even they will be met.
Every Republican candidate including Trump wants to eliminate the Environmental Protection Agency, Richard Nixon’s legacy. Cut back regulation, to restore the precipices as quickly as possible.
On Militarism every one of them wants to raise the huge Military budget. Already over half of discretionary spending. Leading right now, as one factor leading to confrontations that could be extremely hazardous. This again is not being discussed.
Here’s Trump’s plan for accelerating Climate Change.
AN AMERICA FIRST ENERGY PLAN
Here is my 100-day action plan:
- We’re going to rescind all the job-destroying Obama executive actions including the Climate Action Plan and the Waters of the U.S. rule.
- We’re going to save the coal industry and other industries threatened by Hillary Clinton’s extremist agenda.
- I’m going to ask Trans Canada to renew its permit application for the Keystone Pipeline.
- We’re going to lift moratoriums on energy production in federal areas
- We’re going to revoke policies that impose unwarranted restrictions on new drilling technologies. These technologies create millions of jobs with a smaller footprint than ever before.
- We’re going to cancel the Paris Climate Agreement and stop all payments of U.S. tax dollars to U.N. global warming programs.
- Any regulation that is outdated, unnecessary, bad for workers, or contrary to the national interest will be scrapped. We will also eliminate duplication, provide regulatory certainty, and trust local officials and local residents.
- Any future regulation will go through a simple test: is this regulation good for the American worker? If it doesn’t pass this test, the rule will not be approved.
Trump is going to save the coal industry? This is pure fantasy.
The whole plan is malicious on a monstrous scale.
