This is a weekly discussion of the race for the US House seat in Ohio’s 8th Congressional District. Kossack Corey Foister is facing Rep. Warren Davidson, proud member of the Republican Freedom Caucus.
Intro
Welcome to the first edition of OH-08 Week in Review. Two and a half weeks ago, the first federal election of the year 2016 took place, because House Speaker John Boehner finally had enough of his own caucus and gave up the speakership and his seat. In what was not really a nail-biter, Republican Warren Davidson defeated Kossack Corey Foister 77-21. Now the focus turns towards the general election in November. After an exhausting campaign, not a lot happened during the last week, but Corey’s website got a new look.

Before the special election, I predicted that Warren Davidson would be a new contender for ‘America’s Worst Congressman’. Was that too harsh? Maybe, but Davidson is off to a good (read: bad) start. WCPO Cincinatti ran an article titled “We asked our representatives about assault weapons. Here's what they said (or didn't say)”. The article features answers by several Democrats and Republicans and this:
Rep. Warren Davidson, Republican from Troy, Ohio (represents Butler County).

Yeah, it’s just the first big national topic of conversation after you were sworn in. No need to have a statement on that… Meanwhile, Corey went to Facebook to support the sit-in by House Democrats. It’s a real shame that apathy stopped him from being there with them.
OH-08 is considered a safe Republican district. But I believe that supporting Corey is worth it anyway for several reasons. First and foremost, Corey took initiative to fight for progress and that should be rewarded. Additionally, this is Ohio and OH-08 will be a presidential battleground state and control of the Senate might also be decided by Ohio’s race (Portland vs Strickland).
