Our cause continues to gather force as now we have picked up major support:
Harry Reid is quietly promoting Elizabeth Warren as a top pick to be Hillary Clinton’s running mate, and the Senate minority leader is already looking into Massachusetts law to see how quickly her Senate seat could be filled if Warren were to ascend to the vice presidency, a source close to him said Friday.
Reid knows the Democratic Massachusetts legislature can change the secession law to prevent Gov. Baker from appointing her successor should she win. They did it before when John Kerry ran for president in 2004. But even if Massachusetts didn't do that, we'd have a perfectly winnable special election in short order. Joe Kennedy can win that seat.
Most importantly, its a full win/win for Warren and her supporters. As I've stated before, Warren's biggest win is the creation of the CFPB. That happened in her executive branch service under President Obama, not as a Senator. By all accounts she was a skilled, savvy operator in navigating the White House and executive bureaucracy. I have no doubt that if she joined the ticket she would drive a hard bargain with Hillary Clinton for a broad, serious portfolio with appointments influence. If Clinton loses, she is the most powerful Senator, a huge thorn in Trump's side, and the clear frontrunner for 2020.
We don't know about personal chemistry, which is also super important. We will have to see. Liberal news consumers who like to see Warren say stuff on TV would certainly face some disappointment if she were elected. She'd be much more restrained and it would likely be her last job. But there is no question in my mind she would advance her cause far further than sitting in the Senate for another decade or so.
We have to keep pushing, both publicly and privately to make this happen. Welcome aboard Sen. Harry Reid! Lets do this thing!
